Ahead of the Steam Deck’s Australian launch next week, Valve has revealed a limited edition white Steam Deck that harkens back to the yesteryear of gaming aesthetics.
As reported by Sifter, Aussies won’t have to compete with other regions for the special colourway. Each region has its own allocation, meaning a fairer chance at nabbing one when it goes on sale.
Priced at $1,099 in Australia, the white Steam Deck is slightly more expensive than the top-of-the-line standard 1TB model, with the same spec sheet. Other than the fancy colouring, the limited edition variant also gets a matching case and cleaning cloth. We can’t have mismatched accessories, can we?
It’s not the first special release hardware from Valve either. Last year, the PC gaming giant launched a small supply of transparent Steam Decks, albeit not in Australia. With Valve finally servicing the land down under, we get all the fancy variations along with the rest of the world.
I really like the off-white, slightly grey, finish of this Steam Deck mode. Its vibes are similar to that of the 1990s and early 2000s era of video game hardware. Particularly the Super Nintendo and PSOne consoles that favoured light greys and whites as their main colour palettes.
In Australia, the white Steam Deck is available to order online alongside the rest of the range at 10:00 AM AEDT on 19 November 2024. Here’s a refresher on the prices:
- LCD 256GB: $649
- OLED 512GB: $899
- OLED 1TB: $1,049
- Limited edition white OLED 1TB: $1,099
I’m yet to grab a Steam Deck, so this fresh-looking model is squarely in my sights.
