Boost Mobile takes $45 off its 12-month SIM plan

Looking for a long-term commitment with a telco this Valentine’s Day? For the next couple of weeks, Boost Mobile has discounted one of its long-expiry SIM plans, providing a nice way to save on your phone bill.

From now until 24 February 2025, Boost Mobile’s $300 12-month SIM plan costs $255, a nice $45 saving. It averages out to be just a bit more than $21 per month, which competes strongly with the cheapest SIM plans.

In exchange for $255, you get 265GB of data to use over 12 months, roughly 22GB each month if you break it down. That’s well above the average monthly data use of 14.2GB as reported by the ACCC. Bear in mind that the 265GB total includes a bonus of 25GB that comes with a first-time activation. Even afterwards, the standard 240GB allocation is nothing to sneeze at.

Compared to other telcos, the Boost Mobile deal is a little pricier but it has an ace up its sleeve. Boost Mobile is the only mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that has access to the full Telstra network. In other words, it’s among the telcos with the best network coverage in Australia. Vodafone recently closed the gap with its recent network expansion but Telstra, and Boost Mobile by extension, is the most comprehensive.

Among the many phone plans available, a long-expiry product has its advantages. Especially during a sale, a 365-day SIM plan can provide more data over a year than a monthly plan, often at a cheaper average price. In the case of the Boost Mobile deal, you also get unlimited international calls to 20 countries, including New Zealand, the UK, and the USA.
