Australians looking for a 4K sports fix will need to fork out more starting in March, after another Kayo Sports price increase.
As reported by WhistleOut Australia, Foxtel’s sports streaming service will cost even more for the highest tier. What was previously called “Kayo Basic” is now “Kayo Premium”, along with a newly minted $40 monthly price tag, up from $35.
Kayo Premium supports streaming on two different screens at the same time, at up to 4K resolution. Not every sport broadcasts in 4K, although the availability of higher-resolution AFL, NRL, F1, and cricket has steadily increased.
A brief notice outlining the changes is live on the Kayo Help Centre, published under the URL “Why has my Kayo price changed?” However, the notice includes no explanation for the price increase. Instead, it only outlines the changes taking effect on 4 March 2025, just in time for the new AFL and NRL seasons.
The entry-level subscription tier, “Kayo One”, will also be renamed “Kayo Standard”. It will remain at $25 per month, supporting HD quality on one screen at a time.
Subscribers and Australian sports fans aren’t thrilled about the latest price increase. A thread on the AFL Subreddit is filled with responses complaining about the price and questioning whether the service quality justifies the cost.
From a business perspective, global sports streamer DAZN announced plans to acquire Foxtel in late 2024. Currently, Kayo Sports is included as one of the apps available for a bundle discount with Hubbl, Foxtel’s standalone streaming hardware.
No matter who owns what, the latest Kay Sports price increase puts a further squeeze on Australian sports fans.
