Could this be the Google Pixel 9a? Leaks seem to suggest so

The house of Google has sprung another leak, this time regarding the Pixel 9a. Several publications have shared specs and product renders claiming to be Google’s upcoming baseline phone.

As reported by Tom’s Guide, the alleged Google Pixel 9a has a 6.3-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Further details come from WinFuture, reporting that the purported mid-range phone has specs including 8GB of RAM, a 5,100mAh battery, and the Google Tensor G4 chip found in the rest of the Pixel 9 range.

Elsewhere, leaked renders suggest a smaller camera profile. While the Pixel 8a had a noticeable strip on the back, the 9a seems to have little or no bump surrounding its cameras. Reportedly, the main rear lens will have a 48MP sensor, down from 64MP on last year’s model. However, megapixels aren’t everything; the sensor’s pixel size arguably has a greater bearing on photo quality.

Google recently confirmed its I/O developer event will start on 20 May this year, but the Pixel 9a is expected to go on sale in March. If that’s the case, it’ll be earlier than the Pixel 8a’s May launch window in 2024.

All eyes will undoubtedly be on the price. Long considered one of the best-value phones on the market Google’s Pixel ‘a’ series crept up to $849 in Australia last year. The Pixel 8a was still a great phone, albeit inching closer towards premium territory. Apple recently revealed its $999 iPhone 16e, which might provide a benchmark to beat.
