Huge 18-inch Acer Predator gaming laptop gets RTX 5070 Ti GPU

At what point does a gaming laptop become the equivalent of a slightly smaller desktop PC? I ask because the new Acer Predator Helios Neo AI range reaches up to 18 inches in size, which is seriously hefty.

First revealed at CES 2025, Acer’s 2025 gaming laptops don’t skimp on power. Available in 16 and 16-inch variants, both models can be specced with the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU. Nvidia’s ridiculously expensive RTX 5090 hasn’t reached laptops yet, but a 5070 Ti should still do nicely.

Other than the screen size, the main difference between the laptops is display technology. You can get a 16-inch Acer Predator Helios Neo AI (try saying that three times quickly) with an OLED panel. Conversely, the 18-inch model supports Mini LED instead.

Theoretically, the 16-inch laptop promises better contrast levels and viewing angles, while the 18-inch version should be brighter. At the max specification, each laptop boasts a 240Hz refresh rate and a 2560 x 1600 display resolution. Befitting the intended high-level gaming audience, each laptop supports up to 64GB of RAM and 2TB of SSD storage.

At 2.7kg and 3.3kg respectively, don’t expect either laptop to be overly portable. But if screen size is what you want above all else, Acer’s got you covered.

When I tested the 2024 16-inch Predator laptop, the power was impressive, but the noisy fan and short battery life disappointed me. Gaming laptops aren’t known for all-day batteries, but Acer’s older model didn’t last long away from a power outlet, even compared to other devices. If Acer has found a way to improve this, it’ll be a big step forward.

Aiming to launch in Australia in the second half of 2025, the latest Acer Predator laptops don’t have a local price yet. Based on the specs published online and overseas pricing, expect a starting figure of $3,000.
