Sick of touch controls in cars? You’re not the only one! Earlier in the year, Euro NCAP, Europe’s car safety organisation, announced that automakers need to make physical controls readily available for core functions or risk missing out on a top safety rating. Following suit, Australia is also discouraging a reliance on touchscreens in cars.
Research shows that car touch controls are unpopular, unwieldy, and slow driver reaction time more than drug and alcohol use. Tesla’s copped a whack for safety concerns before, but all car brands are in the firing line. Expect to see more buttons in cars in the next few years.
Check out Wired‘s in-depth story for a good primer on the issue.
