Dash cams are going through something of an evolution at the moment. Navman’s latest dash cam touts a nearly 360-degree view of your car, while the new DDPAI N5 Dual model has a big energy-saving feature.
Comprised of a 4K front camera and a 1080p rear camera, the DDPAI N5 Dual uses an interesting combination of radar and AI technology. Able to record footage when your car’s parked, it doesn’t just take continuous time-lapse footage, a method that drains the battery quickly.
Instead, the dash cam uses an “AI millimetre-wave radar” to detect motion to record a 10-second clip. If the device detects further motion, then it kicks into time-lapse mode. DDPAI claims that this method reduces power consumption by 87% compared to solely relying on time-lapse recording. The dash cam reportedly supports up to 15 days of round-the-clock car surveillance as a result.
As you’d expect, the N5 Dual also comes with the full suite of standard dash cam features, like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and built-in GPS. Both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are supported, letting you connect to a phone app and access footage.
32GB of built-in storage comes included, with the option of microSD card expansion up to 512GB. Out now in Australia, the N5 Dual costs $199 from JB Hi-Fi, Amazon, and DDPAI’s online store.
