Samsung is gearing up to launch its new slimline phone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, in a presentation scheduled for next week.
Set to air on 13 May, the announcement will take place on Samsung’s YouTube channel, revealing more details about the phone. We first saw the slimmer phone in January, which directly followed the launch of the core Galaxy S25 range.
Teasing what to expect, Samsung published a blog post about what it considers “the next evolution of Galaxy”. Designed to incorporate the company’s AI technology, Samsung claims the Galaxy S25 Edge merges “flagship-level performance with superior portability.”
“This is more than a slim smartphone,” the blog post read. “Every curve, contour and component reflects a breakthrough in precise engineering to create a premium experience worthy of the S series name.”
Samsung will hold most of the phone’s details until next week, but it has confirmed some of the Galaxy S25 Edge’s camera capabilities. Like the flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra, the S25 Edge uses a 200MP wide-angle camera, suggesting the thinner form factor won’t compromise on photo quality.
Thinner phones seem to be the next major trend from big phone makers. In addition to the S25 Edge, Apple is expected to launch the similarly trimmed-down iPhone 17 Air at some stage this year.
At Galaxy Unpacked earlier in the year, GadgetGuy‘s Valens Quinn described the Galaxy S25 Edge’s thickness as “about two-thirds of a regular S25”. It’s likely to use a ceramic material to help prevent bending, one of the first concerns that needs addressing.
Samsung’s US website lists a US$50 credit offer for reserving the new phone, while no such listing appears on the Australian site. It might indicate a later release date for Australia after an overseas launch.
As far as other specs, like the processing power and display, we’ll have to wait until next week for Samsung’s presentation.
