Eufy’s new smart lock scans your palm without any contact

Eufy has released the S3 Max Video Smart Lock in Australia, a palm reader that may not tell the future, but it does help unlock your home.

Eufy’s press release claims that the smart lock reads palms at an accuracy rate of “99.99999%”, which is a lot of nines. Its palm recognition technology identifies the veins of your palms via an infrared sensor without requiring any contact.

Alongside its smart lock function, the S3 Max Video doubles as a video doorbell so you can track deliveries and visitors. Wi-Fi and Matter compatible, Eufy’s new smart lock also connects with other smart home devices.

Eufy also claims the device lasts between 6-12 months depending on functionality, using a combination of a 15,000mAh rechargeable lithium battery in addition to four AAA batteries.

In Australia, the Eufy S3 Max Video Smart Lock costs $899.95 via Eufy’s website and Harvey Norman. It’s also coming to JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys in July.

Palm-reading smart devices are on the rise; Eufy is one of several smart home brands using the tech, with Tapo also employing its own palm-reading tech at CES earlier in the year.
