LG just pulled off something OLED makers have been chasing for years, and your eyes will thank them.
About eight months ago, LG teamed up with Universal Display Corporation in a power-couple move to crack one of OLED’s biggest limitations: blue light efficiency. With the first mass-producible blue PHOLED (phosphorescent OLED) panels announced recently, the alliance has addressed the root of OLED burn-in, colour shift, and high battery drain and heat generation (especially in mobile devices).
All of which means OLED screens will become brighter without sipping as much power, and produce more accurate colour for longer. The first products to benefit will be mobile devices and monitors, followed by TVs.
