Samsung has fired the first shot in the battle for slim phone ascendancy, confirming the Galaxy S25 Edge for Australia.
Made to fit neatly in your pocket, the S25 Edge is 5.8mm thin and weighs a light 163 grams, built with a titanium frame. For comparison, the flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra measures 8.2mm in thickness, tipping the scales at 218 grams. Interestingly, the base S25 is actually slightly lighter at 162 grams, albeit with a slightly thicker 7.2mm build.
However, the Galaxy S25 Edge has a large 6.7-inch AMOLED screen, completely overshadowing the standard S25’s 6.2 inches. As such, along with various other features, the S25 Edge has a $1,849 price tag for the 256GB storage model and $2,049 for the 512GB variant. Both models include 12GB of RAM.
In a hands-on with the new device, GadgetGuy‘s Valens Quinn considered it a bridging point between the S25 Plus and the S25 Ultra. It’s similar to Samsung’s top-of-the-line Ultra in a few different ways, hence the higher cost. One way is the 200MP main camera sensor, as teased last week. The S25 Edge also uses the Samsung-optimised Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, empowering it with an identical set of AI features as part of One UI 7.
One of the compromises made to accommodate the thinner form factor is a two-camera array. Dropping telephoto zoom capabilities, the S25 Edge uses a 12MP ultra-wide camera alongside the main 200MP sensor. Samsung pointed to the latter sensor as a reasonable replacement for optical zoom, with the high megapixel count used to crop and zoom into photos it takes.

Another small sacrifice is in the form of a smaller 3,900mAh battery capacity. That makes it the smallest of the Galaxy S25 range, albeit understandable considering the reduced space on offer. Samsung advertises the S25 Edge as having “all-day battery life”, supported by 0-55% charging speeds of 30 minutes with a 25W charger.
A nice surprise in the face of a small form factor is dual SIM support. Both physical and eSIM technologies are supported. As for colours, the options include Titanium Silver, Titanium Jetblack, and Titanium Icyblue. The latter is exclusive to Samsung’s website, while the other two will be widely available at retail.
Pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge are live now, with the phone launching in Australia on 30 May.
