Just a friendly reminder that the only thing you should put in your laptop ports is a compatible plug. A recent TikTok trend dubbed the “Chromebook challenge” saw students in the US stick all sorts of foreign objects into their school-issued laptops, causing sparks, smoke, and a whole lot of damage.
Several North American schools have issued warnings over the trend, which has seen students jam lead pencils, paperclips, and other school supplies in the ports of their Chromebooks. It’s generated enough buzz on TikTok that even a Geelong school alerted parents to the trend.
TikTok has since taken action, blocking “Chromebook challenge” as a search term, accompanied by a warning that the phrase “may be associated with behaviour or content that violates our guidelines.” The take-home message? Don’t let your intrusive thoughts win, and keep pencils out of your Chromebooks.
