Oppo has launched its first budget phone of 2025 in Australia, the A5 Pro 5G, a handset with a huge battery and more durability than most affordable devices.
On paper, it’s arguably the quintessential Australian phone, able to withstand the sand and water of the country’s beaches. Following in the Oppo Reno 13’s footsteps, the $399 A5 Pro has an IP69 rating, meaning it’s both dust-tight and able to hold up to high-pressure water exposure, per the official ingress protection advice.

More than that, the A5 Pro also has a whopping 5,800mAh battery capacity that lasts up to 35 hours of phone call time, according to Oppo. That’s a decent bump up from the usual 5,000mAh batteries you typically see from most Android phones. On top of that, the phone supports up to 45W wired charging speeds.
Inside the phone is a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of built-in storage. Screen sharpness is one of the sacrifices made here for an otherwise impressive spec sheet; 120Hz smoothness is nice, but the 720p resolution isn’t as crisp as the Reno 13 or competing phones like the Moto G35.
In terms of the all-important camera, the A5 Pro’s dual rear camera array consists of a 50MP standard sensor plus a 2MP portrait lens. On the front is an 8MP selfie lens, which is fairly run-of-the-mill at this price point.

Available now at JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Big W, Officeworks, The Good Guys, and Oppo’s online store, the A5 Pro comes in two colours: Mocha Brown and Olive Green. It may not be as striking a design as some of the brand’s historically iridescent colours, but the natural earthy colourways are easy on the eyes.
