Arlo security cameras get better connectivity with new accessory

A lot of modern home security devices rely on having a healthy Wi-Fi network. While that may work for some households, there are inevitable cases where maintaining a strong wireless connection is tricky. To address that gap, Arlo has released a dedicated Power over Ethernet (PoE) Adapter, creating a stable, wired connection.

The $59 adapter works with Arlo’s second-gen Essential indoor and outdoor cameras, supplying consistent power and internet connectivity. It does require a separate PoE switch to work, however. You can usually pick one up for roughly $50, so it’s not a super-expensive outlay.

Once connected, it allows for a hard-wired home security system that stays online, even if the Wi-Fi is patchy. Provided you’ve got a PoE switch, it’s a relatively plug-and-play solution.

The Arlo PoE Adapter seems like an ideal way for larger or multi-storey properties to hook up a home security system. Depending on the home, installing a good Wi-Fi network can add up in cost and complexity, making the adapter a comparatively cost-effective and simple alternative.

Arlo’s adapter is out now via the home security brand’s website and various Australian retailers.
